3CX V18: Connecting teams and customers - faster, better, more efficiently

The final version of 3CX V18 is here - with unparalleled audio quality, performance and reliability. V18 puts customer communication at the forefront and offers an integrated all-in-one solution for both internal communication and contact with potential customers - via telephony, live chat or video.

New 3CX client and desktop app

With 3CX V18, the web client is further enhanced and also made available as a native Windows desktop app, eliminating the need for the browser extension. The new desktop app uses the same Electron framework as Teams and WhatsApp, resulting in better integration with the operating system and therefore a more reliable user experience. With the desktop app, you can take a call from any interface you are working on (e.g. CRM) without having to switch between applications.

Improved mobile app support for seamless remote working

  • Better codec management - automatic setting of the codec depending on the network (WiFi/3G/4G)

  • Optimised connection recovery in case of network changes or disconnections

  • Never miss a call again thanks to collaboration with Google and Apple to improve the reliability of PUSH notifications

  • Added support for Bluetooth and hands-free devices

  • Siri integration - iOS users can instruct Siri to make calls via 3CX

Support for Single Sign On (SSO)

It is now possible to log in to the web client using your Active Directory, Microsoft 365 or Google account. Local Active Directory accounts are supported via Microsoft's free Azure AD Connect service.

Teams Integration

Teams integration offers a cost-effective alternative to MS365 Calling Plans. Through the Teams SIP proxy, 3CX provides a seamless, consistent calling experience for both 3CX users dialing into Teams and vice versa. Users can dial into 3CX SIP trunks at low domestic and international rates offered by SIP providers in the region. Companies can reduce their costs while having a much more powerful phone system.

Voice Engine Reloaded - More performance, more security

V18 has been extensively reworked internally to improve audio quality, optimise reconnection and increase security:

  • A+ Security - V18 has been updated to Debian 10, upgraded to the latest .NET core, OpenSSL and Postgres, and has the latest encryptions. In terms of security, 3CX outperformed the competition, achieving an A+ in Qualys labs and an A in Immunilabs.

  • Better codec management - The mobile apps and web client now use G711 to reduce transcoding, resulting in lower processor usage and better audio. The mobile apps use G711 when running over WiFi and G729 over the mobile network.

  • Easy call encryption with simple SRTP configuration

  • Over 50% less processor and memory usage

  • Merging the tunnel with the media server for faster recovery in case of network failures

How to get V18

V18 is available for Linux (installation via 3CX ISO) or a supported cloud provider and Raspberry Pi4. The Windows version will be available soon. If your 3CX instance is hosted by 3CX, then we will update to V18 in the next two weeks. You can also update the system yourself via the admin console.

How to update:

  1. Log in to the administration console.

  2. To be on the safe side, create a complete backup copy of your configuration by going to "Backup & Restore".

  3. Select "Updates".

  4. With Debian, select "V18 & OS Upgrade Available Debian 10" .

  5. On the Raspberry Pi4, select "Major Release" .

  6. Confirm the upgrade.

  7. You will receive an e-mail informing you when the operating system and the telephone system have been updated.
